Inner Growth Word of the Day: Baggage

Google’s Dictionary definition: (n.) 2. past experiences or long-held ideas regarded as burdens and impediments.

Baggage in a sentence: Our baggage doesn’t have to be a burden if you look for the hidden lessons in those experiences.

Baggage in action: When an experience weighs you down in time it is called baggage.

Baggage and inner growth: As with all that entails inner growth even our so-called baggage can help us further along on that journey when you explore what those experiences have taught you and find why they hurt you and pursue to resolve that hurt.

Baggage and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I consider baggage? How has my emotional baggage affected me? When did I first define an experience as baggage?  Why did I define it as such?  How has my emotional baggage affected my relationships?  What are some of my biggest takeaways from the baggage I’ve experienced?  Why is baggage important to me when it comes to my inner growth?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with baggage at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list think of one experience that brought with it a lot of baggage and use the words from your list to write about it.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about baggage and as you do this accompany your feelings with thoughts of things you appreciate now in your life. Look to find how your baggage experiences brought you to where you are today and notice if your feelings change as you do this.  How do your emotions transform as you find the growth that your baggage has brought to you?
