Inner Growth Word of the Day: Compromise

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 1 a. settlement of differences by arbitration or by consent reached by mutual concessions.  1 b.  something intermediate between or blending qualities of two different things.

Compromise in a sentence: People who make compromises that resonate with their inner self actively choose to give up something without regretting it down the line.

Compromise in action: A compromise involves meeting a situation or person half way, so you may have to give up something on your end.

Compromise and inner growth: Exploring the types of compromises you make and how you feel about them later on give you insight into what tweaks you want to make to the way you approach compromises so that you always ensure you’re in harmony with yourself.  With this level of awareness and thought process inner growth is achieved as is making future compromises that don’t entail regret at some point later on.

Compromise and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about a compromise? When was the first compromise I ever made?  How do I feel about compromises?  How do compromises affect my relationships?  What have I learned about life from compromises I’ve made?  Why do I make compromises?  Who have I made compromises for without ever regretting it?  What types of compromises do I have a hard time making?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with compromise at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Now make a list with the top three compromises you’ve made up to today.  Write about two of these compromises using the words from your first list.  Notice the commonalities between the two compromises and how you feel about them.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about compromise and allow them to freely flow throughout your body, noticing where they stem from and where they go (does it seem like they stay concentrated near your heart or maybe your stomach area). As you sit in silence try to spot those emotions that stand out the most.  As you do this focus on one of the feelings at a time and let thoughts come in.
