Inner Growth Word of the Day: Materialism
Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) 2. a preoccupation with or stress upon material rather than intellectual or spiritual things.
Materialism in a sentence: How much emphasis materialism has on the decisions you make depends on the emphasis you put on material things.
Materialism in action: When you are concerned with material things that is materialism.
Materialism and inner growth: Knowing what role materialism plays in your life is something that when explored reveals the value you ascribe to material things, which brings inner growth by allowing you to consciously choose how you want to manage this in your life.
Materialism and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: Do I judge materialism? How has materialism affected my life? When was the first time I thought about materialism? What role does materialism play in my relationships? What are some of my biggest takeaways from events that involved materialism? How do I foresee my relationship with materialism transforming?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with materialism at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. From this list pick two words that stand out the most and write about why they stand out using the rest of the words from your list.
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about materialism and allow them to flow as you sit in silence. Notice if there are any particular emotions that stand out from the different ones you’re feeling and hone in on them. As you do this also allow thoughts to come to mind and see what exact events come to mind. Focus on one life event at a time and see what feelings each brings about.
