Inner Growth Word of the Day: Ego-driven

No set dictionary definition (so here’s mine when combining the words and their meanings): (adj.) 1. being motivated by the self.  2. Taking actions, making decisions, forming conclusions are all based on the self and not another self or the world.

Ego-driven in a sentence: Although some would classify ego-driven as something negative, it isn’t bad to take actions to pursue one’s fulfillment and happiness, as long as these actions don’t harm or take away from another’s fulfillment and happiness.

Ego-driven in action: When you make a decision that is based on your ego, on the self, that is being ego-driven.

Ego-driven and inner growth: Understanding if you’re ego-driven and what that entails gives you clarity on what you want to pursue and how you pursue these wants.  It is also an opportunity to be aware if your actions include not impeding on other’s life pursuits.  Thanks to this exploration inner growth takes place on the level of yourself and your actions towards others.

Ego-driven and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: What do I think about the word ego-driven? How has being ego-driven affected my life? What changes have taken place because of my ego-driven actions?  How has being ego-driven played a role in my relationships?  What do I think about others who are ego-driven?  Do I think the same about my ego-driven tendencies?  Is there something I would change about being ego-driven?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with ego-driven at the center and then list or put around it all the other words that come to mind associated with it. Now create a second list where you write three to five actions you’ve taken that were ego-driven.  With your first list of words write about the one ego-driven action that stands out the most for you (from your second list).

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about ego-driven and allow them to flow without you thinking about anything. As you focus on your emotions, where they are coming from and going, how they feel, hone in on the commonality between the different senses you’re experiencing.  When you’re ready allow thoughts to come in and make note of the first ego-driven related moment that comes to mind.  Hone in on that moment and now allow it to express itself through the feelings it brings about.

Your turn – Share your ego-driven sentence, life examples, and inner growth action steps; and let me know if you’d like to see something added to our Inner Growth Word of The Day explorations 🙂
