Inner Growth Word of The Day 73 – Negativity

March 14

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Negativity

Google’s Dictionary/Search definition: (n.) the expression of criticism of or pessimism about something.

Negativity in a sentence: Negativity brings a focus on worst case scenarios, but it can also promote thorough reflection on something before making a decision.

Negativity in action: Being skeptical and inclined to expect a negative outcome involves negativity.

Negativity and inner growth: There are different levels of negativity, but no matter the level, if you are able to explore it and find out what it’s about, you can use that moment to further inner growth.  Understanding brings a sense of security, exploration is what helps to understand and from there actions can be taken that help you to move forward.

Negativity and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I feel about negativity? What’s my definition of negativity?  How has negativity played a role in my life?  How has it affected me and my life?  What have I learned from negativity?  Where do I apply negativity?  What events in my life brought about the most negativity and why?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with negativity at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Now create a second list of up to five things that brought about negativity.  From these five things pick one and write about it.  Include what stands out the most from this event in the way it affected you and what positive changes it brought about.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about negativity and try to stay focused in the moment. As you do this make a mental note of words or events that cross your mind.  Try to allow your feelings to take over and not your thoughts, and when you’re ready take each word or event that crossed your mind and explore those feelings one at a time.
