Inner Growth Word of The Day 71 – Reactive

March 12

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Reactive

Google’s Dictionary/Search definition: (adj.) 2. acting in response to a situation rather than creating or controlling it.

Reactive in a sentence: Being reactive is something everyone understands depending on the circumstance.

Reactive in action: If a situation compels you to do something in the spur of the moment, you’re being reactive.

Reactive and inner growth: After having a reactive action you can step back and explore what just happened.  Thinking about the situation allows you to look into yourself, as well as take into consideration attempting to do things differently next time or knowing how you will react in those circumstances.

Reactive and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I feel about being reactive? Do I judge my reactive actions?  What have I learned from being reactive and what those actions are depending on the situation?  When does my reactiveness take place?  Are there times when I wish I wasn’t reactive?  If so, when is that and why do I feel this way about being reactive in those moments?  Is there something that has changed in time due to my reactive actions?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with reactive at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From those words write out a scenario where being reactive brought about contemplation that helped you move in a direction you wouldn’t have otherwise considered had you not acted that way.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about reactive and try to notice what those feelings represent in words. As you’re doing this try to keep your mind from thinking about specific situations where reactive actions took place.  At the same time, make a mental note of the first situations that come to mind and explore the feelings associated to them next.
