Inner Growth Word of The Day 65 – Blockages

Inner Growth Word of the Day: Blockages

Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition: (n.) an act or instance of obstructing.

Blockages in a sentence: Blockages can be a number of things like character traits you judge about yourself or feeling like you can’t do something or even stopping yourself from doing certain things for fear of failure.

Blockages in action: When something is stopping you from doing something, whether it’s in a physical sense or an emotional sense, there is a blockage that is preventing you from moving forward.

Blockages and inner growth: Becoming aware of your blockages allows you to acknowledge them and explore them so that you may overcome them or find your happy medium.  This process involves inner growth since you are taking steps to bring your blockage(s) full circle and in the process, you get to know yourself more and more.

Blockages and inner growth action steps:

  1. In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I feel about blockages? Have I overcome my blockages?  Do I think I still have other blockages to work on?  What types of blockages have I dealt with up till now in my life?  Where did my blockages come from?  How did facing these blockages help me in my life?  Do I think I can ever be rid of all blockages?  How have I helped people with their blockages?

  1. List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with blockages at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. From those words choose five and then list five different blockages you’ve dealt with or have that come to mind with each word.  Next pick one of the blockages listed and write about overcoming it and use the words from your first list throughout your story.

  1. Bring your awareness to your feelings about blockages and as the feelings are flowing, visualize releasing these blockages through your feelings. If they make you feel heavy, switch to feeling light or if they make you feel uneasy, switch to a feeling of lightheartedness.  If this becomes tough to do, stop and write out the specific blockage that is going through your mind.  Take that blockage and write about you overcoming it (in as much detail as possible, as if you were doing it while writing the story).
