Struggles and inner growth: Struggles help inner growth by bringing you to feel at a bit of a loss, yet fully invested in trying to obtain something. This type of situation brings you to contemplate, as well as take action. In the moment that you may be ready to give up, you will gain the biggest lesson of that specific struggle and you will either persist and overcome the struggle or decide whatever your struggle is, it is not something you want to pursue.
Struggles and inner growth action steps:
- In-depth self-exploration questions: How do I feel about my struggles? What have I done to overcome my struggles? Do I wish I didn’t have any struggles? And how would my life be if there were none? What have I learned from my struggles? Is there one struggle in particular that I can see had an everlasting impact on my life and me? If so, how did it affect me and my life? How have I helped someone that I know with their struggles? How easy was it for me to relate to what they were going through? Did that help me to help them or help myself through another one of my struggles?
- List or word bubble: Make a list or word bubble with struggles at the center and then list or put around it all the words that come to mind associated with it. Pick five of the words you listed and from those list five events that have happened in your life that represented a struggle and those individual words you chose. Next write about a most recent struggle you’ve been through using the words from your first list to talk about it.
- Bring your awareness to your feelings about struggles and allow them to flow as much as possible. If you find yourself getting distracted, try envisioning the word struggle with an image that represents it for you. Visuals may help to keep your focus on the feeling a bit longer or with less distractions. If you get uncomfortable take a break and write down what crossed your mind as you got uncomfortable. If you are able to let your emotions flow, once you feel ready, allow your thoughts to cross your mind too and write down whatever thought or situation stands out the most for the feelings it’s bringing about inside of you.
